So vs Such

Και οι δύο λέξεις μεταφράζονται ως «τόσο» και χρησιμοποιούνται για να δώσουμε έμφαση. Η διαφορά τους έγκειται στη σύνταξή τους, δηλαδή, στο τι ακολουθεί μετά από αυτά.

Μετά από τα παραπάνω μπορεί να ακολουθεί δευτερεύουσα συμπερασματική – αποτελεσματική  πρόταση η οποία εισάγεται με το that και δηλώνει  το αποτέλεσμα που έχει η εμφατική σύνταξη του so.

e.g. The music is so loud (that) I can't sleep.
e.g. She spoke so quickly (that) I couldn't understand her.
e.g. I never knew you had so many brothers (that) you had to share a bedroom.
e.g. She has so few friends (that) she rarely gets out of the house.
e.g. Jake earns so much money (that) he has lost all sense of what a dollar is worth.
e.g. They have so little food (that) they are starving to death.

* Στις παραπάνω προτάσεις το that μπορεί να παραλείπεται.

Μετά από τα παραπάνω μπορεί να ακολουθεί δευτερεύουσα συμπερασματική – αποτελεσματική  πρόταση η οποία εισάγεται με το that και δηλώνει  το αποτέλεσμα που έχει η εμφατική σύνταξη του such.

e.g. He is such an idiot (that) nobody would hire him.
e.g. Shelly has such beautiful eyes (that) she got a job as a make-up model.
