Relative Adverbs

Relative Adverbs (= αναφορικά επιρρήματα)

Πρόκειται για λέξεις οι οποίες, όπως φανερώνει και το όνομά τους, προσδιορίζουν το ρήμα και μας δίνουν επιπλέον πληροφορίες για τον τόπο, τον χρόνο και την αιτία για την οποία έγινε μια πράξη
Ας τα δούμε αναλυτικά:

when= όταν/ όποτε                                               

Δηλώνει το χρόνο. 
e.g. The most stressful day of the week is Monday, when people go back to work. 

where= όπου 

Δηλώνει τον τόπο.
e.g. The house where Mozart was born is now a museum.
Πολλές φορές το where μπορεί να αντικατασταθεί από το in which (= στο οποίο)
                 e.g. The house in which Mozart was born is now a museum.
                 e.g. The house which Mozart was born in is now a museum.
Προσοχή: η πρόθεση in μπορεί να μπαίνει μπροστά από το which ή στο τέλος της αναφορικής πρότασης.

why= επειδή

Δηλώνει την αιτία. 
Συνήθως προηγούνται λέξεις όπως reason, cause, purpose
e.g. The reason why I didn't call you is that I've lost your phone number.
