COLLOCATIONS WITH "GO"

Το go είναι είναι ένα πολυχρησιμοποιημένο ρήμα. Κάποιες φορές το χρησιμοποιούμαι για ευχάρηστες "εξορμήσεις" e.g. go on vacation / holiday / on cruise 
και κάποιες άλλες για όχι και τόσο απολαυστικές πςριπτώσεις e.g. go to work / school 

Το ρήμα go ανήκει στα irregular verbs. Σχηματίζει δηλαδή τον Past Simple και την Past Participle (=Παθητική Μετοχή) όχι με την κατάληξη -ed, αλλά:

Ας δούμε τις πιο σημαντικές εκφράσεις του ρήματος "GO" χωρίς τη συνοδία κάποιας πρόθεσης ή άρθρου:
Examples:

Well, that's it, we've finished - we can go home now.
Go straight on until you come to a large white building.
She went crazy and started to think everyone was trying to kill her.
He goes running every day to keep fit.

ΠΡΟΣΟΧΗ: Παρόλο που στην ελληνική γλώασσα λέμε "πηγαίνω για ψώνια", "πηγαίνω για τρέξιμο", στην αγγλική γλώσα η πρόθεση για=for ΔΕΝ συνοδεύει αυτές τις εκφράσεις. 

go shopping     ΟΧΙ      go for shopping
go swimming    ΟΧΙ      go for swimming

Η πρόθεση for χρησιμοποιείται με τις ακόλοθες εκφράσεις:

GO + PREPOSITION FOR

Examples: 

Let's go for a walk around the block before dinner.
What about going (out) for a meal?
We can rent a bicycle and go for a ride!

GO ON

 Examples:

As soon as the exams are over I'm going on holiday!
His job involves going on (business) trips quite often.
He didn't go on a diet, but he absolutely changed his eating habits.
I'll never forget the first time my husband and I went on a date after having our first daughter.
The coal miners decided to go on strike for better working condition.

GO TO

Examples:

He must pay $ 100 or else go to prison.
What bliss! I don't have to go to work today.

GO TO THE

Examples: 

If you go to the bank, will you pay these cheques in for me?
You'd better go to the doctor's about your cough.
I often go to the beach to catch shrimps and crabs.



ΠΡΟΣΟΧΗ ΣΤΟ ΑΡΘΡΟ "THE"
go to hospital (as a patient)             
go to church (as a prayer)
go to prison (as a prisoner)              
go to school/university ( as a student)

Ωστόσο, αν πηγαίνω σε αυτά τα μέρη ως επισκέπτης μπορώ να χρησιμοποιήσω το the.
e.g. Ι went to the hospital to visit my grandma.
