Πρόκειται για έναν χρονικό σύνδεσμο που αποδίδεται με τη σημασία "μόλις". 

Προσοχή στην ακολουθία των χρόνων:

ΠΑΡΑΔΕΙΓΜΑΤΑ:

By the time we got to the cinema the film had already started.

By the time you called me, I had finished the report.

We had been waiting for almost an hour by the time you came.

ΔΕΥΤΕΡΗ ΠΕΡΙΠΤΩΣΗ

ΠΑΡΑΔΕΙΓΜΑΤΑ:

By the time we get to the cinema the film will  have started.

By the time you call me, I will have finished the report.

We will have been waiting for an hour by the time you come.
